several users have reported a problem when selecting Restart or Shutdown when SndControl is present (and active) in their System Folder.
The problem would seem to occur irrespective of whether a sound is attached to these events.
Most reports mention a "Finder 41" error message when selecting Shutdown.
For a while, it seemed the problem only occurred on the Mac LC, but I have also heard from one Classic II, a couple of IIfx and one SE/30 users.
Some users report garbled sounds or a hang up at Shutdown, rather than a "Finder 41" error.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to reproduce this problem on my own system (or I would certainly have found a fix by now).
If you experience any such behaviour, I would GREATLY appreciate hearing from you.
If you determine that the problem occurs only when a specific sound is assigned to Shutdown, please send me a copy on disk of the offending sound(s). I suspect the problem to be caused by an incorrect header or by an incorrect interpretation on my part of an unknown sound header. This suspicion would be confirmed if you report that some sounds produce the error while others don't.
If the problem occurs even when you don't assign a sound, please try to find out if it's due to the presence of any particular other Extension (INIT) or Control Panel (CDEV). Sometimes changing the loading order of INITs and/or CDEVs cures some problems. To accomplish this, you may change their name in a such a way as to change their alphabetical order.
If you do send in a disk, please tell me which of the numbered disks from my collection of sounds you'd like me to send you to reciprocate. Also allow for several weeks return, in case I want to send you a fixed SndControl version, too.

PS Talking of bugs: David Lambert reports a problem with the chime bell sound not being played the number of times corresponding to the hour. It works fine on my system(s). Let me know if it misbehaves on yours.
